I am an independent scholar sans advanced degree, a jack of all trades and master of some, a pioneer in the field of Biblical Evolution (that's finding the foundations of evolutionary biology in Genesis, not study of how the Bible has evolved), incurably addicted to the study of history, warts and all, a Midwestern descendant of a Tennessee union civil war veteran, a well mixed American, and pretty good at chess. I first became familiar with The American Conservative through the blog of one of the editors, Rod Dreher, whose earlier Beliefnet blog, "Crunchy Cons," I found via a link from ThinkChristian.net. I don't believe the conservative brand being developed by TAC is the answer to all our prayers, or problems, but it looks to be a valuable contribution to the dynamic tension that sometimes produces real progress. It is certainly an effort to restore intelligence to conservative thought. It is not enough to be conservative, but can be productive and beneficial at times. View all posts by Siarlys Jenkins
